Some Things I Have Noticed Lately

First if all, Why in the heck do the gasoline pumps seem much more difficult to stop right on the exact dollar amount? They keep going right past that and ending on the cent mark? I have tried this at several different gas stations over a large area, and they ALL went right over into the next .01!! Annoying! I don’t want to give the damn oil companies any more cents than I wanna spend.

Second, I have decided it’s official! Coca-Cola and Mountain Dew taste WAAAAAYYY better out of the can then out of a plastic bottle. They are even more addicting that way, especially the Coke.

Third, why do retailer employees seem to be so out of the loop? When a customer asks them if a certain item will be on sale soon, why do they not know? I don’t work retail, never have, but recently I have noticed that they are clueless about what items will be for sale in the real near future.

These are just a couple that bug me right now. What do you think?

My Story…Part 23

I drove on through the night, fueling up my truck with gasoline, myself with Mountain Dew and listening to loud music from radio stations that broadcast from somewhere out in the darkness. There was not too much to look at, the freeway was dark for most of my trip, except for the big cities.

Chicago was a blur, but the city I looked forward to driving through was Des Moines, Iowa. I was not too impressed. If there is such a thing as a “typical Midwestern city”, Des Moines was exactly it.

I stopped at a gas station there to get some caffeine in me. I must have been in the shady side of town off I-80. It was kind of run down and I remember construction on the freeway. The gas station was dirty as was the woman behind the counter. This is not how I imagined Des Moines, but now that I was there, I can say I was there.

Des Moines also marked the half way part of Iowa. That seemed like a long state to drive through. Again, it is in the middle of the plains and there was a whole lot of nothing to see once I got away from the city lights.

I flew through that state and when I got to the end of it, Nebraska was next. With it, Omaha, which is right on the state line. When I got to the line I was to call the girl I was driving to see. From there, she was to guide me in to her house.

Omaha was a city right on the Missouri River, which bordered Iowa and Nebraska. I felt weird for being, what I felt, right in the heart of the country. I was in the middle of the United States. The time changed too, as I learned a few hours earlier, thanks to the radio.

As I was talking to her on my cell, I had started to think about not meeting her. I started to feel like I should not do this.

But I was extremely tired and I had driven this far. I started to talk myself into just going over there and meet her real quick, then leave and get a hotel room.

A few minutes after crossing into Nebraska and being on the phone, I was in front of her house. It was an older, big, two story house. The neighborhood seemed nice from what I could tell by the glow from the street lights.

I got out of my truck and walked to the door. I was nervous. I started to think about what if she didn’t look like anything in the picture I had seen? What if this was some kind of cruel joke? Am I gonna get killed here?

I approached the dark, unlit house. I rang the doorbell with the feeling that my heart would beat right through my chest. As I stood there for a minute, I didn’t hear anything. So I rang the bell again.

This time I heard the sound of someone running to the door. The lock unlocked and then the door quickly opened. It was still dark and unlit.

As the door opened, I could make out the figure of a woman’s body, but I could not see her face or anything inside the house. Grabbing my hand, she told me to hurry up and come inside.

Which New Mountain Dew?

Mountain Dew has a contest between three new flavors, Voltage, Revolution, and Supernova, which has been introduced in the spring. We, the public, have been asked, by Mountain Dew, through commercials and advertisements, to try each of these flavors and vote for our favorite.

The voting must be done at

I am here to push for one, in particular. Now you may ask just who the heck am I to push for one. Some Joe Blow off the street? Nope! Not even close.

I am an avid and habitual Mountain Dew drinker. I have been drinking the pop I like to refer to as “bottled water that has cleansed God’s hands” for over 20 years. It so heavenly. There is nothing like it in the whole world.

I have gotten to the point where I absolutley need, what I refer to as a 20-er, every morning on my commute to work. A 20-er is a 20 oz. bottle. I have about 5 a day.

Yes that may sound like alot, but I do drink water also. So I am not THAT bad.

I have tried alot of their gimmicks in the past. There was Mountain Dew Red back in the late 90’s. It was fruity. No big deal.

Then there was Pitch Black! Very grapey flavor. I liked it. It came out in 2004 for a few months then gone.

There is the ever present Baja Blast at Taco Bell. It’s ok. Again, no big deal. Nothing to hurry and run out for.

Then they came out with a Pitch Black II. Garbage. They changed the whole taste altoghther.

Mountain Dew Code Red and Live Wire. Both ok. No big deal.

The new flavor for testing is Voltage, the dark blue one. Too sour, too tart. I don’t like it. Somehow, it’s the leader in some states. It is flavored with raspberry and citrus. I don’t care for those flavors. Especially tangy ones.

Revolution, ligh blue, another one of the tested flavors, is pretty good. I liked it. Its fruity, and sweet. But it doesn’t taste too good if it gets warm. It also doesn’t taste too good with food. With wild berry flavoring and ginseng, makes it almost too sweet.

Supernova, light purple, should be the winner. It’s fruity, sweet and with strawberry and melon flavoring, it is very easy to enjoy, but it is losing in alot of states.

So that is why I am pushing for votes for Supernova! Tastes good, plus it has a cool name. Something that is loaded with caffeine needs a good name, anyway.

So go vote at dewmocracy.comfor Supernova. Although I will keep on being loyal to the original flavor, Supernova would be my second choice for a little change of taste.

Just A Question…Or More

Is it wrong to post several times a day? I think not. But I would like opinions. How are you supposed to remember the events happening all day and then post them in the evening?

Are we gonna find out years down the road that certain soda pops are bad for us? Mainly Mountain Dew? I am so addicted to it it hurts. Yeah I drink Coca-Cola also, but that damn Mountain Dew has that certain kick that gets me going. Cigarettes were cool for years til it was figured out that they were killing people off. I also heard all the rumors that the artificial color formula in Mountain Dew is supposed to shrink a guy’s manhood (if you know what I mean). I believe that to be just rumor. I have been drinking the stuff for 20 years. If the shrinking was true, I’d be sitting down to take a pee by now.

Why is it that every summer when a big time movie comes out, some fast food joint has to sponsor it and glue that particular movie’s actors and scenes all over everything from the fry holder, cups, wrappers and sometimes the damn fast food building itself?!?! Look, I get it. All the money and endorsements and convenient product placement in movies is cute. But please stop ramming Indiana Jones down my throat when I go to Burger King. The least these places can do is go back to real drinking glasses for it’s customers. Remember when they did that?

Speaking of fast food and other products, does anyone actually win those contests when we peel back the stickers? Yippee!! I won a free small fry! Or a free small pop! I already bought that stuff. What I wanted to win was the Hummer! Or the huge-ass plasma tv!! Ok, maybe I’ll settle for the cash. If people actually do win, why don’t we ever hear about it?
